Rumours of a potential match between the Springboks and a World XV invitational side at Cape Town Stadium emerged on Wednesday.
Afrikaans newspaper Die Burger reports that the City of Cape Town is in talks with SARU and the Western Province Rugby Football Union regarding the hosting of the match on June 7.
"They (SARU and WPRFU) have the Test at Newlands against Australia (September 27) and then they're looking at another game (in Cape Town) against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium," said mayoral committee member Grant Pascoe.
Comments from WPRFU president Thelo Wakefield suggest that the union are supportive of the proposed fixture, despite the match yet receiving the green light.
"SARU asked us if we'd like to come on board and we agreed. It's a top-notch match coming here and it's good for the fans," said Wakefield.
"The discussions around it are between the City Council and SARU. WP will act in an advisory capacity."
With the City of Cape Town known to be in favour of the WPRFU moving their headquarters from Newlands to the Cape Town Stadium, the promise of a match of this magnitude is sure to delight rugby fans in the Western Cape.
